In the top-right corner of each phrase row, you will find icons that inform you of the different statuses of a phrase.

These are the available options, and what they mean:

Approved

 After a phrase is translated, the translation must be approved before it becomes visible on the website. A gray checkbox means the translation is not yet approved. A blue checkbox means the translation is approved and visible to the entire world!

Locked

 The translation is locked if this icon is yellow. It is an optional extra mechanism to stop translators from editing a translation. If the translation is locked, you should likely leave it alone, even if it looks wrong at first sight. Someone put effort into that translation, and didn't want anyone changing it.

Flagged

 The translation was flagged. Translations are usually flagged because someone thinks there's an issue. Ideally, when flagging a translation, you should also add a message in the chat explaining why you flagged it.

Dynamic Variables

 This phrase contains one or more dynamic variables. They are enclosed with curly braces {{example}}. DO NOT translate what’s inside the curly braces - place the variable (including the {{curly}} braces) into your translation where it belongs. The SiteTran Widget will replace the dynamic variable with the actual value on the live translated website.

Note: When translating variables, pay special attention. Let's look at an example:

In this example, we have a phrase like "€9.99 one-time fee". The 9.99 can change, so we use a variable for it. In the source language (English), a period is used for the decimal delimiter, while the target language (French) uses a comma before decimals. In addition, in French, the currency symbol should be on the right of the number with a space in between, while the source language has the currency symbol to the left of the number.

Alternative Selectors

 If the same exact phrase appears more than once on the same site, in different contexts, an alternative selector can be added to it (added by the Site Manager). This is used if the phrase needs to be translated in 2 different ways, because of different contexts, grammar, syntax, etc. If you think you might need to translate an identical phrase 2 different ways, you can ask the Site Manager to add an alternative selector to that phrase. This will create another version of the phrase with this icon . You can translate it, and that translation will only appear on the page or element that was specified in the phrase's alternative selector.

Identical Translation

 This translation is identical to the original source phrase. It might have been added using the “insert source” button .

Translation History

 The translation has a history. It has been edited at least once.  The number indicates how many times a phrase has been edited and saved. To see the translation history, you can click on this icon, and it will appear on the top left of the translation interface. To learn more about translation history, click here.
