Before you start

One quick check before you start

SiteTran goes in Wix's Custom Code, which Wix includes on paid plans with a connected domain. Here's how to tell if your site is ready.

Ready for SiteTran

Paid Wix plan with your own domain

If your site is published on a domain like www.yourbusiness.com, you have the Custom Code page in your dashboard. That's where SiteTran goes, and it loads on every page, including pages you add later.

Quick upgrade

Free site on wixsite.com

Upgrade to any paid Wix plan and connect your domain. The Custom Code page then appears in your dashboard, ready for SiteTran.

Best placement

Custom Code, not Embed HTML

Custom Code loads the Widget Code once for every page, so your whole site is translated. Embed HTML elements run in their own sandboxed frame, so add SiteTran through Custom Code.

How it works

Add SiteTran to Wix in three steps

The same steps work for sites built in the Wix Editor and in Wix Studio, because Custom Code lives in your site's dashboard, not in the editor.

1

Create your SiteTran site

Sign up free, add your Wix site's address and pick your languages. SiteTran gives you your Widget Code, which adds the language dropdown to your site.

2

Add it as Custom Code

In your Wix dashboard, add the Widget Code to All pages, choose Load code once, place it in Body – end, and click Apply.

Settings›Development & integrations›Custom Code›+ Add Custom Code
3

Translate and publish

Open your live site and pick a language. SiteTran discovers your text as pages load, then you translate it with AI, your own translators, or both, and publish.

What the Widget Code looks like
<script>var sitetran = {site_id: your_site_id};</script>
<script src="//c.sitetran.com/widget/v3.js"></script>
<div id="sitetran_translate_element"></div>

SiteTran gives you your own ready-to-paste code, with your site ID already in it. The div is where the language dropdown is created.

Add Custom Code

<script>var sitetran = {site_id: 12345};</script>
<script src="//c.sitetran.com/widget/v3.js"></script>
<div id="sitetran_translate_element"></div>

What happens to each part of your Wix site

Wix sites load content as visitors scroll and move between pages without a full reload. SiteTran keeps watching the page, so text that appears later is translated when it appears.

Translated on your pages

Wix Stores

Product names, descriptions, options, the cart and storefront labels such as Add to Cart and Subtotal are translated in every language you add, because SiteTran translates what renders on the page.

Translated on your pages

Wix Bookings and Events

Service lists, Book Now buttons, the booking calendar, booking forms and confirmation messages shown on your site are translated, so visitors can book in their own language.

Translated as displayed

Blog, CMS and dynamic pages

Blog posts, CMS collection items, dynamic item pages, lightboxes and text set with Velo code are translated when they're shown. Nothing is written back to your CMS, so you don't need a field per language.

Translated on your pages

Third-party Wix apps

Apps that add their text to your page, such as reviews, pop-ups and extra forms, are translated like the rest of it, in every language you add.

Meta tags translated

SEO titles and link previews

The SEO title and description you set in Wix, Open Graph and Twitter tags, image alt text and placeholders all switch with the visitor's language. See the SEO details.

Unchanged

Your Wix site and editor

SiteTran only changes the text visitors see. Your pages, CMS collections, apps and Velo code stay as they are, and when you edit a page in Wix, the new text shows up in SiteTran ready to translate.

Every way to make a Wix site multilingual

You have three realistic choices: Wix's own Multilingual feature, a translation app from the Wix App Market, or SiteTran. Here's what each one involves.

Wix MultilingualBuilt in, managed in your dashboard Translation appsFrom the Wix App Market SiteTranOne Custom Code snippet
How it works You add languages, then translate text and app content in Wix's Translation Manager, by hand or with auto-translate. Most install a script that translates your pages in their cloud and adds a language switcher. SiteTran translates your pages as they render and adds a language dropdown.
Wix plan needed Works on free and paid sites. Language subdomains need a paid plan. Most listings are marked Premium Site Required. A paid plan with a connected domain, which Custom Code requires.
New and edited text New pages and elements aren't auto-translated, and edits don't update other languages until you translate them again. New text is usually detected when the page is visited. New text is discovered as it appears. Machine Translation Auto Translate can translate it right away.
Machine translation 3,000 free word credits, then 3K, 10K or 50K word packs. A word allowance per plan, often with a language cap. DeepL, Google Translate and OpenAI. 7K machine translations on the Free plan.
Languages 180+ languages, no fixed cap. Often capped per plan, for example 1, 3 or 5 languages. 187+ languages, unlimited on every plan.
Store and checkout labels Auto-generated store text is translated for about 30 languages and stays in English for the rest. Varies by app. Any label shown on your site, in any language you add.
Language URLs Subdirectories such as /fr/ by default, with hreflang added automatically. Usually language subdomains you set up with DNS records. Some offer none on Wix. Same URL by default, with translated meta tags. Indexable language subdomains via the Static Translation API.
Team workflow Site collaborators with translation permissions. Varies, often on higher plans. Translators and reviewers per language, approval, Glossary and Translation Rules, with unlimited teammates.

Wix Multilingual details are from Wix's help center, and app details are from Wix App Market listings and each provider's pricing page, checked October 20, 2026.

Translation quality

AI speed, with a person checking what matters

Start with machine translation and refine it with your own team. You decide what gets approved and when it goes live on your Wix site.

  • Machine translation from DeepL, Google and OpenAI

Get suggestions for any phrase, or translate new phrases automatically. You choose whether they're approved automatically or reviewed first.

  • Translators and reviewers per language

Invite a bilingual stylist, your agency or a professional translator for each language, and choose who can approve. Turn on AI Translation Review for a second opinion.

  • Glossary, rules and translation memory

Keep your business and service names consistent in the Glossary, set Translation Rules that AI translation follows, such as formal or informal tone, and reuse past work with Similar Phrases.

  • A language dropdown that fits your design

Choose from three dropdown types, with or without flags, and add your own CSS. Visitors are switched to their browser language automatically.

Everything search and social cards read

SiteTran translates more than visible text. When a visitor switches language, the SEO title and description you set in Wix switch with it.

  • Page title and meta description
  • Open Graph and Twitter tags for link previews
  • Image alt text, tooltips, placeholders and ARIA labels
  • The page's lang attribute, set to the selected language

Language URLs for Google

By default, every language uses your existing Wix URL and the visitor's choice is remembered. For a separate, indexable page per language, SiteTran's Static Translation API returns translated HTML for an address you serve it from:

www.yourbusiness.comWix, original
es.yourbusiness.comSpanish subdomain
fr.yourbusiness.comFrench subdomain

Each language subdomain points at a small proxy or edge worker that calls the API, while your main domain stays on Wix. We'll help you plan it.

Troubleshooting

Wix translation not working? Check these first

Most Wix setup questions come down to where the code went or testing in the editor instead of the live site.

1The language dropdown doesn't appear

  1. Check the live site, not the editor or Preview. Wix only runs Custom Code on the published site.
  2. Confirm the snippet is in Settings › Custom Code, set to All pages, with its toggle on, rather than in an Embed HTML element.
  3. Make sure all three lines of the Widget Code are there, including the div.
  4. In SiteTran, make sure the language is both Active and Live. If Hide All Widgets On Site (dev mode) is on, add ?sitetran=on to your URL.
My Language Isn’t Showing Up in the Language Dropdown →

2The snippet disappeared from Custom Code

  1. Wix ties Custom Code to your domain. If you assign a different domain to your site, Wix deletes the snippets.
  2. Add the Widget Code again under Settings › Custom Code.
  3. Reload your live site to confirm the language dropdown is back.

3Some text is still in the original language

  1. SiteTran discovers text when it's shown, so open the pages, lightboxes, booking steps and cart you need translated.
  2. A translation appears only after it's approved and published.
  3. To translate new text automatically, turn on Machine Translation Auto Translate.
Translating Dynamic Content →

4My changes aren't showing yet

  1. After you approve and publish, translation data can take up to 30 seconds to update.
  2. A visitor's browser can keep translation data cached for up to 10 minutes.
  3. Try a hard refresh or a private window.
My New Translations or Changes Aren’t Appearing on my Website →

5The dropdown only shows after cookie consent

  1. Wix loads Custom Code before consent when its Code Type is Essential, which is the default.
  2. If you set the SiteTran snippet to another category, it waits until visitors accept that category.
  3. Open the snippet in Custom Code and check its Code Type tab.

6Names or member data are being translated

  1. Add business, staff and product names to the Glossary with the translation you want, often the name itself.
  2. Use variables for names, dates and prices inside a sentence.
  3. For member areas with personal data, turn off Public Phrase Discovery.

Email support
How do I add SiteTran to my Wix site?
Create a free SiteTran site and copy your Widget Code. In your Wix dashboard, go to Settings, click Custom Code in the Development & integrations section, then + Add Custom Code. Paste the code, choose All pages and Load code once, place it in Body – end, and click Apply. Open your live site and pick a language from the dropdown.
Do I need a Wix Premium plan?
Yes. SiteTran is added through Wix Custom Code, which Wix includes on paid plans with a connected domain. Once your domain is connected, setup takes a few minutes.
Can I paste the code into an Embed HTML element instead?
Use Custom Code instead. Custom Code loads the Widget Code on every page so your whole site is translated, while Embed HTML runs in its own sandboxed frame. Add the Widget Code under Settings, then Custom Code.
Does SiteTran work with Wix Studio?
Yes. Custom Code is added from the site dashboard, which is the same for sites built in Wix Studio and the Wix Editor, so the setup steps are identical.
Does SiteTran translate Wix Stores, Bookings and the Blog?
Yes, when their content renders on your site. Product pages, the cart, Bookings service lists and forms, Events pages, blog posts and CMS dynamic pages are translated as they appear, in every language you add, so customers can browse, book and buy in their own language. Like every website translation tool, order and booking emails are sent by Wix and use your Wix email settings.
Can SiteTran translate apps from the Wix App Market?
Yes, when the app adds its text to your page, it's translated like the rest of your site. Like any website translation tool, an app that shows its content in its own iframe from another domain uses that app's language settings.
Do translated Wix pages get their own URLs for SEO?
By default, every language is served from your existing Wix URL with translated titles and meta descriptions, and the visitor's choice is remembered. For indexable language URLs, SiteTran's Static Translation API can serve translated HTML on a language subdomain such as es.yourbusiness.com through a proxy you point it at, while your main domain stays on Wix. Book a call and we will help you plan it.
Should I use Wix Multilingual instead?
Wix Multilingual is a good fit if you want /fr/ style URLs with hreflang and are happy translating inside Wix. Its auto-translate uses word credits, and new or edited content has to be translated again. SiteTran suits sites that change often, need many languages, or want translators and reviewers working in one place. We recommend using one or the other on a site, not both.
Will SiteTran change my Wix site or CMS content?
No. SiteTran only changes the text displayed in the visitor's browser. Your pages, CMS collections, apps and Velo code stay as they are, and text that visitors type into forms is submitted as typed.
Can I use machine translation and still review it?
Yes. You can get machine translation suggestions from DeepL, Google Translate or OpenAI, automatically translate new phrases, and decide whether those translations are approved automatically or reviewed first. You can also invite human translators and reviewers for each language and use AI Translation Review.
Will visitors see their own language automatically?
Yes, by default. SiteTran detects the visitor's browser language and switches to it when that language is available on your site. The choice is saved in a cookie for future visits, and visitors can change language at any time from the language dropdown.
Can I test translations before visitors see them?
Yes. A language stays hidden from visitors until you set it to Live. You can also turn on Hide All Widgets On Site (dev mode) under Settings, then Publishing, and add ?sitetran=on to your site's URL to preview the language dropdown yourself. Test on your published site, where Wix runs Custom Code.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The Free plan includes 7,000 words in your site, 3,000 translated pageviews per month and 7,000 machine translations, with unlimited languages and teammates. Paid plans raise those limits and start at $3 per month. Compare plans.
What happens if I go over my plan's limits?
You will be prompted to upgrade or buy additional credits. Your existing translations remain intact, and new translations are paused until you upgrade.
